Sustainable drainage for modern sports facilities
Climate change and increasingly extreme weather events pose major challenges for sports facility operators. Reliable, resource-efficient drainage is crucial to keeping areas safe for use even during heavy rainfall. The Asnyka Sports Centre in Katowice has been extensively modernised and equipped with a sustainable drainage system. SPORTFIX slotted channels made of recycled polypropylene (PP) were used in combination with SPORTFIX Sand traps, Soft kerbs and an integrated Water jump.
This solution ensures flush, virtually invisible integration into the running track while also ensuring efficient drainage of rainwater. The material used is UV and frost resistant, corrosion resistant and fully recyclable – a clear statement for sustainable construction in sports facility building.
Functional details and long-lasting quality
SPORSFIX Slotted Channels impress with their high technical precision and well-thought-out details.
KTL-coated slotted covers ensure a permanent connection to the running track surface. EPDM slotted inserts facilitate the application and precise opening of the drainage slots after installation. Recycled composite covers also serve as track markings and support rapid water drainage through side openings. In addition, sump units enable easy maintenance and cleaning during operation – a clear advantage in everyday sports use.
Sustainability meets functionality
SPORTFIX systems from HAURATON combine technical excellence with environmental responsibility.
The use of recycled materials, long service life and easy maintenance minimise resource consumption and create lasting value. Thanks to the flexible combination options with aluminium running track frames or composite markings, they offer planners and builders maximum design freedom.
The project in Katowice is a prime example of how modern rainwater management can sustainably improve the operation of sports facilities – for safe, resilient and future-proof sports surfaces.
